Rosenborg - Juventus (Italy) 1-1 (0-0) Att: 20 246 1-0 Trond Egil Soltvedt (51) 1-1 Christian Vieri (53) Yellow card: Mark Iuliano, Juventus. - A very good game by the Norwegians champions against the defending champions. The home side could have taken the lead after one minute when Soltvedt shot over from a good position. Then, the Italians took over and only a good save by Jamtfall prevented Iuliano from giving them the lead. The rest of the half was pretty even, with few clear-cut chances. In the second half, Rosenborg broke the deadlock after Juventus failed to clear a corner properly, and after a golamouth scramble, Soltvedt headed the ball into the net from close range. Unfortunately, the Norwegians hadn't stopped celebrating before the teams were level again. A good cross from Di Livio was headed in by strong striker Vieri. In the rest of the game, Rosenborg had more of the ball, but Juve had the best chance when Vieri shot straight at Jamtfall after the keeper had miskicked a clearance. The best Rosenborg players were Mini Jakobsen on the left, who at times gave Torricelli a torrid time. The home side alos had a very good defence lead by Hoftun and Jamtfall. For the visitors, their defence was as always superb, whereas up front Padovano was invisible, but big, strong Vieri proved a handful. In the resturn leg Juve will probably have both Boksic and Del Piero back from injury, which most likely will turn the tie into the Italians favour. ***** Juventus (Italy) - Rosenborg 2-0 (1-0), agg. 3-1 Att: 35 000 1-0 Zinedine Zidane (29) 2-0 Nicola Amoruso (pen. 90) Yellow card: Ståle Stensaas, Rosenborg. Red card: Ståle Stensaas (90), Rosenborg. - As expected, Rosenborg had little chance in Turin. In the end, the home win, could, and should have been bigger, but poor finishing and good goalkeeping by Jamtfall kept the scoreline down. Unfortunately for the RBK goalkeeper he must take the blame for the first goal, when his poor clearance from a backpass, hit Zidane's foot just outside the penalty area, and the ball slowly rolled into the open goal. The second goal came on a penalty in the dying seconds, which also led to the sending off of Stensaas, after his second yellow card of the game. At the other end, Rosenborg didn't really have one good chance to score the important away goal, as they were always crowded out by the Juve playes, and never allowed time to play their game. Still, RBK go out on a high, after being the first Norwegian team to play in a Champions Cup quarterfinal.
